Welcome to First Baptist School

First Baptist School of Charleston offers a high standard, independent, co-educational college preparatory program for grades K2-12.  A member of the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS), Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA), we provide academic excellence in a Christian setting.  At First Baptist School of Charleston we recognize the importance of educating mind, body, and spirit.  Our students are challenged in a nurturing environment by a talented and caring faculty.  Our campus is located in the heart of historic Charleston, South Carolina.

The First Baptist School of Charleston was established as a mission of the First Baptist Church of Charleston in 1949, under the direction of Dr. John A. Hamrick, Sr.  Entering its sixth decade, First Baptist School continues to advance the mission of Academic Excellence with a Christian Perspective.

First Baptist School of Charleston is one of the only downtown Charleston schools in the original walled city. Teachers at First Baptist School of Charleston regularly take students out of the classroom into one of the greatest cities to experience learning in a way not offered in many other places. Whether it’s for history, science, photography or to walk down Longitude Lane to Hazel Parker Playground for recess, students explore the historic district on a regular basis.

At First Baptist School, honors and advanced classes are the norm, not the exception. In addition to honors and advanced classes, we provide a learning environment that includes chapels, core values, religion classes, art, music, physical education and technology in the classroom. We are producing young ladies and gentlemen; civilized scholars, athletes and artists who will lead tomorrow.

We are a mission driven school. We are proud of that mission. We are proud of the young men and women who call First Baptist School their school.

“First Baptist is a great fit for my family. The school community provides challenging academics, in a family oriented environment, that also stimulates spiritual growth. The leaders of the school, faculty, and parents work together to provide an excellent educational experience that leads to success beyond high school.”
