Our Counselors & Teachers

Shannon Carosone

Camp Director

Shannon Carosone moved to South Carolina from Orlando, Florida where she grew up and worked for Disney’s childcare services. She played soccer at Newberry College then made Charleston her home back in 2009.  Shannon has been a part of the First Baptist family for sometime now. In the last’s two years she has worked in the K3 program. She also helps with the kindergarten dance and soccer programs after school along with being the assistant girl’s varsity soccer coach here at FBS. This is Shannon’s second year directing the summer camp program.

Devin Dean

Camp Counselor

I graduated from First Baptist in 2019 and now attend Bob Jones University. This is my second year as a counselor. I’m on the men's basketball team and majoring in Child development. After school, I’m hoping to become a Child Life Specialist or play basketball overseas.

Emma Ferguson

Camp Counselor

I am a senior at the College of Charleston studying Early Childhood Education. I have been working at FBS summer camp for 4 years now. I also lead Young Life at Hanahan High School. Some of my favorite things include being outside, finding a new project to work on, being at the beach, and am very passionate about teaching young kids. I am so looking forward to a great summer with all of the kiddos at First Baptist Summer Camp!

Mackenzie Bryan

Camp Counselor

This will be my second year working at the summer camp. I currently go to Winthrop University where I major in Sociology with a Concentration in Criminology. I graduated from First Baptist in 2019, and I played on the varsity volleyball, basketball, and soccer teams. I love to be active and I believe keeping a kid active keeps them out of trouble. I also value my studies, and will gladly help any child with their academic studies. I look forward to the fun this summer!

Joseph Powell

Camp Counselor

I graduated from First Baptist in 2019. I go to Newberry College where I play basketball. My major is accounting with a minor in pre-law. I worked for the First Baptist summer camp last summer and this will be my second year.

I’m so excited to help out with the FBS Summer Camp.

Laura Hansel

STEM Teacher

I am so excited to be teaching STEM to the kiddos this summer! I was born curious about how things work, grow, balance, fit together, and are created and I love to share my passion with young minds. I have been working with kids for over 25 years in many capacities from nursery to high school from church settings to school settings. Not only do I love to figure out how things work, but I love to see when the light bulb brightens in a child's mind and they see something new in the world for the first time. I have been married to my husband Eric for 14 years and we have two curious kiddos of our own; Libby, 10 and Isaac, 8.

Tomika Halls (Ms. Mika)

Drama Teacher

I'm the teacher assistant for both kindergarten classes at First Baptist School. I love working with children of all ages and have over 25 plus years of experience. I'll be teaching drama this summer and can't wait share my passion for having fun with all of the campers. I am a mom of two fantastic children, Sean (15yo) and Laila (12yo). I know that this summer is going to be out of the ordinary but rest assured I will be with your children every step of the way. I can't wait to meet all of you.

Liz Kelly

Art Teacher

I teach preschool at John Wesley Day School. I have been with John Wesley for 19 years. I started First Baptist camp in 2019 in the art class and I am pleased to be returning  and teaching with Lynette. We have a lot of fun ideas planned for this year and can not wait to get started.

Anne Redner

Physical Education Teacher

I will be teaching the Physical Education portion of Summer Camp this year for First Baptist School!  I have just completed my first year at First Baptist but my 12th year of teaching. I love to travel, try new adventures, and teach amazing kids to learn new games and sports!  In camp this summer, we will do Handball, Indoor Hockey, Soccer (my favorite), as well as other fun activities! The kids will also learn what good Sportsmanship is and how it should be demonstrated whether they win or lose. I am excited for Summer Camp and looking forward to the great things that will happen!!

Lynette Hughes
