February Head of School Update & Hurricane Watch Newsletter

Greetings, First Baptist Community!

As February unfolds and winter tightens its grip with cold mornings and gray skies, we are reminded that every season, yes, even this one, is part of God’s design. “You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you made summer and winter” (Psalm 74:17). What a beautiful reminder that winter, though often overlooked, is purposeful. Beneath the surface, roots deepen. Growth continues, even if it's not yet visible. We’re seeing that same quiet, steady growth across our campuses. Though the pace may sometimes feel slow, like the season itself, God is faithfully at work in our students, families, staff, and school.

In the heart of our community, there is great energy. We’re thrilled to launch the Kids Heart Challenge this month in partnership with the American Heart Association. Throughout February, our students will participate in engaging jump rope activities during PE classes while learning about heart health, physical activity, and giving back to others. The challenge will wrap up with a celebration event that reminds us all of the joy that comes from moving our bodies and serving with purpose.

January brought a joyful celebration as we recognized excellence in student achievement. On January 23, we honored our Varsity Soccer Team with a State Championship ring ceremony, a moment filled with gratitude, pride, and excitement. We also celebrated FBS Class of 2025 Alum, James Tyler, our 3200m Track State Champion, with a ring presentation of his own. These students remind us that perseverance and teamwork yield great rewards, and that we are blessed to witness the fruit of their dedication. We are proud of all of them.

Looking ahead, we invite all parents and faculty to a timely and important event: our Parent Workshop on Artificial Intelligence, hosted by The Social Institute. This session will take place on Saturday, February 10, at 6:00 PM, in the Fellowship Hall on our Downtown Campus. This workshop will explore how AI is shaping our children's education, future careers, and everyday lives, and will offer practical tools for guiding responsible and healthy tech use at home. Workshop highlights include the following: understanding what AI is and how it functions in daily life, exploring its impact on education and students' futures, learning how to help children form healthy, ethical relationships with technology, and building confidence in conversations about digital literacy at home. Whether you feel overwhelmed by technology or curious about its potential, this event is designed to equip and encourage you.

Finally, the new Weight Room facility construction has moved more slowly than anticipated; however, we’ve celebrated the pouring of the concrete foundation and other preparation work, an essential milestone. At this stage, we’re awaiting an inspection from the metal building manufacturer before progressing to the next phase.

So while the days are still short and the temperatures low, the evidence of God's faithfulness is all around us. Winter, in its own quiet way, calls us to go deeper, to rest, to prepare, and to trust. May this season be one in which our students, our families, and our staff grow in wisdom, faith, and unity. Thank you for being part of this journey. Stay warm, stay encouraged, and take heart: spring is coming!

We invite you to stay up-to-date with current events by following First Baptist School’s social media and our school webpage. #WeAreFB

Be Blessed!
