Inclement Weather Procedures

Updated: Sep 1, 2019

Dear First Baptist Parents:

With the threat of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Atlantic, we want to make sure that each of you is aware of how First Baptist School addresses school closings.

First Baptist School will follow the Charleston County Schools in closing due to inclement weather. If we return to school before Charleston County or remain closed longer, you will be made aware in a timely manner.

In case of school closings, delayed openings, or early dismissals due to inclement weather, the following will occur:

  • A School Messenger call will be made to the emergency numbers that you have provided to the school and a school-wide email will be sent out informing you of the change in schedule.

  • The news media will be notified of the change. Television stations to watch are: WCBD (Ch. 2), WCIV (Ch. 4), WCSC (Ch. 5). Radio Stations that will be notified are: 95.1 SX-FM, 102.5 WXLY-FM, 103.5 WEZL-FM, 1250 WTMA – AM.

  • School closings and changes in schedule will also be announced through our social media accounts, such as Facebook and Instagram.

  • During inclement weather, we sometimes find that the power is interrupted and we may not be able to open school, even if weather permits. Please check your voice mails, emails, social media and refer to one of the stations listed above as you prepare for the day or drive into school.

We will try to make decisions in a timely manner to keep from causing any undue hardship for our families. Please remember that your safety is of utmost importance. Please use good judgment in traveling during inclement weather.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Blackstock, Head of School
